Frequently Asked Questions

    • Sleeping equipment (i.e., sleeping bag and tent, hammock, bivy, etc.)

    • Water. We’ll rarely be too far from a town with an available water source (plus the sag vehicle will have some), but be smart and bring enough to make it 60 miles in case stores are closed.

    • Clothing for multiple days of riding and a range of weather. As May 28th approaches, you will be able to plan better, but this is Oklahoma, so expect it to change and build a flexible kit that incorporates layers and sun protection.

    • Toiletries. We will all get pretty gross, but everyone will appreciate you for brushing your teeth and throwing on some deodorant.

    • Snacks. You will be riding around 100 miles each day, and your body will be using a lot of energy. Fuel it well and often. If your body does not function well on diner and gas station food, plan accordingly.

    • Charger. Your phone, bike computer, lights, and other electronics are unlikely to survive the four-day trip without a recharge. We recommend a power bank and all the cords you need, as sitting at power outlets waiting for your devices to charge will only slow you down.

    • Safety equipment. Wear your helmet while you ride and bring bike lights, even if you don’t plan on riding in the dark. Stuff happens. Moreover, using your rear light(s) is a great choice for staying visible during the day.

    • Roadside repair kit. Bring the equipment you need to fix your bike on the side of the road if something happens (i.e., spare tubes, tubeless plugs, pump, chain lube, multi-tool, quick-link, etc.)

    • SAG support

      • Mechanic with a large array of tools and parts.

      • Water and snacks.

    • Meals. We will provide breakfast and dinner each day. You are responsible for your lunch.

    • Campsites. We have places to camp arranged for each of the three nights we’ll be on the road. If you wish to stay in a hotel/motel, you will need to arrange for that on your own.

  • Yes! When you register, make a note about you food/allergy restrictions and we will have food set aside for you with your name on it.

  • You are free to find a hotel to stay at, but you will need to pay for your own room.

  • When you register, you can add a shuttle service back to the start. You’ll be buying a seat on the group bus back to Baxter Springs, KS. Your bike will travel in a separate truck, but don’t worry, you’ll be reunited soon enough.

You are welcome to arrange your own transportation back to the start if you’d like.

  • If you need to abandon, the SAG vehicle will pick you up and take you to the campsite we will be staying at that night. You will need to arrange for your travel from there.

The whole route is paved, so a road/touring bike is probably the best option. That being said, you can do this on pretty much any bike, it just may be slower, heavier, more difficult, etc.

Many sections of the route are fairly rough, having a wide (30-40mm) tire will help smooth your ride. We would also discourage choosing a very delicate tire (i.e., “race casing”). Instead, choose a tire with better puncture protection.
